University of Moratuwa


The University of Moratuwa (UoM) is the only Technological University in Sri Lanka. UoM is ranked as the best university in Sri Lanka. We have been able to attract over 95% of the top-performers in the island-wide advanced-level examination. University has three faculties, Architecture, Engineering, and Information Technology. Engineering Faculty is the largest. Engineering Faculty has nine departments: Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Resources Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, Management of Technology, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Textile and Clothing Technology. We offer bachelors', masters, and doctoral degrees.

UoM is a research intensive university and played a key role during the aftermath of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and was instrumental in setting upĀ  the International Institute for Infrastructure Renewal and Reconstruction (IIIRR) is a multi-university international consortium which provides overall leadership in research, education, planning, design and implementation for mitigation of the impact of natural disasters and infrastructure renewal and reconstruction projects in tsunami affected or underdeveloped regions.

UoM will be the WP3 lead providing analytical evidence on key players in the identified South Asian Countries including multi-stakeholder involvement: public, private sectors, funding agencies, research organisations, industry, civil society. UoM will support the country lead for Sri Lanka within WP1. In addition, UoM will actively contribute to WP2, WP4 & WP5. UOM is engaged in research in several areas in line with the Horizon 2020 challenges including Food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and maritime research and the bio-economy, energy efficiency, transport systems and climate action and raw materials. They are a key research institution in the region for risk assessments and have contributed to the development of national, regional and global guidelines, including UNESCO/IOC Guidelines on Coastal Hazards, Tsunami Risk Assessment and Management and Hazard Mitigation. They have experience with EU funded research projects including EURASIA and currently they are a partner of EU funded ANDROID network representing Sri Lanka.
