VGTU, Vilniaus Gedimino technikos universitetas (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University) is one of the largest schools of higher education in Lithuania, which strives for leading position among Baltic countries in technical and engineering education as well as the field of scientific research. VGTU is the second university in Lithuania according to the number of “study baskets” granted and the only technical university among the Baltic states in the QS World University Rankings 2012/2013. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University encompasses the following: nearly 63.000 alumni over more than 50 years of the University‘s existence; 13.000 students (over 2011/2012); 10 faculties; 10 research institutes, 19 research laboratories, 5 research centres; 930 academic staff members; 100 study programmes based on three-cycle structure: undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate studies. VGTU contributes significantly to the international scientific community with a high number of papers printed in the ISI Web of Science journals. The presence of VGTU in the international R&D arena is also ensured by its consistent participation in various European R&D projects. As a part of VGTU, the Institute of Intelligent and Internet Technologies (IIIT) is focused on research of societal challenges (health, wellbeing, efficient energy, smart, green and integrated built environment, climate change, resource efficiency, inclusive, innovative and secure societies) by using intelligent and internet technologies for research, education (intelligent tutoring, library, computer learning systems) and practice. IIIT is a quite active group in terms of R&D projects, participating in seven different EU, Africa, Asia and national projects in the last three years. Deriving these projects, IIIT has contributed to the scientific community in the last three years by publishing 15 articles in the ISI Web of Science journals.

Role: 
In this project, VGTU will contribute to WP 2,4, & 5 utilising their skills on research of societal challenges (health, wellbeing, efficient energy, smart, green and integrated built environment, climate change, resource efficiency, inclusive, innovative and secure societies) by using intelligent and internet technologies for research, education (intelligent tutoring, library, computer learning systems) and practice. VGTU is well experienced in managing and contributing EU funded projects and also LLP and TEMPUS projects. It also has experience in working with Asian countries including being a partner of the EURASIA project.
